Communiqué of the International Coalition of Sans- Papiers and Migrants CISPM
October 8, 2013 Rome, Italy
Mr. President Barroso ,
we are part of the survivors of the “journey not chosen ” in which these days more than 300 people including women , children and men who lost their lives on the north shore of the Mediterranean Sea on the coast of Lampedusa in Italy. We are women , men and children forced to deal with that trip to war -related causes often supported and funded from a war from the Western countries .
We are always one of the major consequences of structural adjustment policies imposed by international institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to the people always in the south of the world and always at the expense of the common good of the people themselves where we came from .
Dear Sir , we are the survivors of this Mediterranean sea , that it should be a place of cultural exchange and not theoretical physicist , has now become air graveyard and the open sea. We are those women , those children and those men to whom you have tried and are still trying to take over , through the policy of bilateral agreements with governments often unpresentable , the right to life .
That’s why we believe the calls of hypocrites those who preach the need for a law on asylum while they continue in their blindness and lack of political will to remove those agreements that continue to trample on the dignity and rights of the people . All this manifests itself physically with sharing and coercion failed policy of ethnic and inhumane prisons and the militarization of the borders with Europe and its member states .
Mr. President , before the deaths of Lampedusa are talking about the tragedy which ashamed , it is called “accident” that must never happen again. Instead we refugees , migrants and antiracist activists believe with conviction that it is not either a fatality or a natural disaster . Because when people are forced to live in poverty , human rights are violated, beginning with the right to freedom of movement of people. We are facing a crime whose responsibilities , political and moral is clear.
That’s why we believe we refugees and migrants having lived on our skin , whether it be the consequences of short-sighted policies and unjust result of the culture of indifference , selfishness and racism throughout the inside and outside of the institutions.
See, for example , Mr. President, what is happening in most of the European countries with the rising tide of racism and discrimination against migrants , refugees and Roma (Greece , France, Italy , Hungary , Malta, Spain and others) and the ‘ use that is made of slave labor migrant as a segment of attack and lowering of the general rights of the workers and the popular strata of society.
Dear Mr. President , the European Union has failed in its mission , a Europe of solidarity and hospitality , with the failure of repressive and restrictive policies such as Directive Dublin , the system Frontex or standards as the Bossi -Fini in Italy . Why the shame lies in these rules and measures that not only protect the refugees , refugees and migrants in general, but closes them in real cages and exposes them to a culture of trivialization of evil and indifference by virtue of their status.
Dear Sir , We want them to say and through you to all the European Parliament, that the illusion of being able to stop the movement of persons across more instruments of control and repression , there is one more deception to the detriment of public opinion and citizenship Length . Why emigrate is a necessity. Especially when you flee from war and famine.
These reasons they took us to organize the first march ‘ Cross-Border ‘ European from Brussels to Strasbourg in 2012 , passing through the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany , Switzerland and finally in Italy together with the International Coalition of Sans- papiers and migrants ( CISPM ) .
Finally , Mr. President , to give voice to the needs of the survivors now forced to live on the margins of society without any assistance , we convened a European Assembly on November 16 2013, in Rome that will take us to the first caravan for the right to asylum and the freedom of movement of people.
